1. Prepare Tools: we'll need a torque wrench, a breaker bar, a 1/2" to 3/8" socket adapter (if breaker bar and/or torque wrench are 1/2"), a 17mm socket, two crush washers (see part numbers above), a special funnel (see below), oil pan capable of holding at least 3 quarts, and 3 quarts of Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (available at Acura/Honda dealerships).
Socket Adaptor, Ace# 21296
Funnel, Ace# 8099632, attach 3 feet of 1/2" I.D. clear
plastic hose, Ace# 4027512
replace short hose with longer hose, secure with nylon ties if needed.
2. Drive car around for 10 minutes to warm up transmission oil.
3. Jack up car and place securely on jack stands.
Note: the transmission is very close to the exhaust pipes, which will be extremely hot. You may want to consider wearing protective gloves and long sleeved shirt. Try to remember these hot pipes and manifolds before contacting them with your head and face.
4. remove oil FILL plug using 17mm socket. Please see Service Manual diagram above for location. Please remove this plug before draining the oil so if by chance you can't get it loose, your car won't be stuck with an empty transmission!
5. Position oil pan below and towards driver's side of oil drain plug.
6. Using a breaker bar and a 3/8" socket adapter (no socket, just the 3/8" adapter, cool eh?), loosen and remove the drain plug. The hot oil will immediately drain out so make sure you are not in the "line of fire"!
7. Let it drain for as long as you want (long enough to crack open a pop and have a drink).
8. While the oil is draining, install the new crush washers on the fill plug and drain plug. With a rag, clean the washers and the flanges of the plugs. Toss old crush washer in trash.
9. Install the drain plug and torque to 29 lb-ft.
10. Insert funnel between the airbox and strut bar in the engine compartment and snake the hose around and insert into the fill plug.
11. Fill with 2.9 quarts of oil. The oil will start draining out at about 2.7 quarts, at this time, remove the fill hose and screw in the fill plug; this can be a little messy. Torque to 33 lb-ft.
12. Clean up!
